About This Package
Mount Hanang (3,418 m) is Tanzania's fourth-highest mountain and one of its best-kept secrets. A classic shield volcano with a single summit cone, it rises dramatically from the flat Rift Valley floor near the town of Katesh. The Jorodom Route is the standard path, passing through heath and moorland to the heathery summit plateau. Hanang sees very few climbers — you may have the mountain entirely to yourself — making it an extraordinary contrast to the busy trails of Kilimanjaro. The summit views stretch across the Rift Valley, with Lake Balangida glittering below. An excellent weekend adventure from Arusha.
