Long drive to Londorossi Gate (2,250 m) on the remote western side. Register permits and begin trekking through pristine montane forest to Forest Camp (2,750 m). Watch for buffalo and blue monkeys.
Climb steeply out of the forest and cross the Shira Plateau, one of the world's largest high-altitude plateaux. Camp at Shira 1 (3,500 m) with magnificent views of Kibo.
Cross the Shira Plateau past the impressive Shira Cathedral rock formation to Shira 2 Camp (3,840 m). Optional acclimatisation walk to Shira Peak (3,962 m).
Crucial acclimatisation day. Climb to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp (3,976 m). The altitude exposure dramatically improves your body's readiness for summit day.
Tackle the iconic Barranco Wall — a spectacular hands-and-feet scramble with breathtaking exposure. Continue across the Southern Circuit to Karanga Camp (4,035 m). Magnificent views across the whole southern face of Kibo.
Short climb to Barafu Camp (4,673 m), the summit base camp. Rest well, eat a good dinner, and prepare summit gear. Sleep from 19:00.
Wake at midnight. Trek steadily upward through the night in sub-zero temperatures. Reach Stella Point (5,756 m) at sunrise for a view that changes your life. Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,068 m).
Final walk through the forest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). Collect your summit certificate. Transfer to Moshi for a celebratory dinner.
